Fact Check: AI-Generated Video Falsely Linked to Alleged Iranian Attack on Israeli Nuclear Facility

On September 5, 2026, a 13-second video was shared on X alongside a claim that Iran had targeted a nuclear facility in Israel. The video was presented as footage related to the alleged attack. Both the video and the accompanying claim were shared by an X user named IranReportsX. The post has been viewed more than 43,700 times, reposted 36 times, and liked 188 times.

 

However, a subsequent investigation indicated that the footage was generated using artificial intelligence. To assess both the authenticity of the video and the accuracy of the accompanying claim, the content was examined using Gemini and HIVE Moderation.

The video and its accompanying claim were first analyzed using Gemini. The analysis identified indicators consistent with AI-generated content. Gemini also found no evidence in national or international news coverage to substantiate the claim that Iran had targeted an Israeli nuclear facility.

 

The video was subsequently examined using HIVE Moderation. Consistent with the Gemini analysis, HIVE Moderation also identified indicators suggesting that the footage was AI-generated.

Frames from the video were additionally examined using Google’s reverse image search to determine whether the footage had previously appeared online. The investigation revealed that the video had circulated before the September 5 post, contradicting the implication that it documented a newly reported attack. The earliest instance identified during the investigation was an X post by a user named EbrahimZolkxy on August 23, 2026. The video was also found circulating on other social media platforms, including TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.

Taken together, the findings indicate that the video does not provide authentic visual evidence of the alleged Iranian attack on an Israeli nuclear facility. The footage shows indicators of AI generation and had already circulated online before the September 5 claim. Furthermore, no supporting reports of the alleged attack were identified in the news sources examined during the investigation.

In conclusion, the investigation indicates that the viral video does not authentically document an Iranian attack on an Israeli nuclear facility. Analyses using Gemini and HIVE Moderation identified indicators consistent with AI-generated content. Furthermore, the video had already circulated online before September 5, 2026, undermining the claim that it showed the alleged attack reported that day.

This case demonstrates how AI-generated footage can be combined with unverified claims about military events and presented as breaking news. It highlights the importance of verifying both the authenticity and original context of viral footage, particularly during conflicts and periods of heightened geopolitical tension.
